01 Yes I am dwelling.

another day. almost christmas.

01 Last year we talked and drank beer. It snowed, and now the snow reminds me. It is another one of those weeks. I am trying so hard to stay gone like I said that I would... this sucks.

Eclipse, Solstice and Yoga

01 Today has been a wonderful day so far. I woke up around 10, though it was aobut 15 minutes before my alarm went off. It has been a while since I got up without an alarm. Heck it has been a while since i got up without hitting the snooze a handful of times. I started my morning with a piece of string cheese, followed by a bit of web surfing and chatting. I then went to my car to grab presents that I am hiding at Megan's house and to get my yoga mat from my car. I get to my car to find a ticket. I was parked in the day plow route apparently... too bad i didn't know this until after the fact. Oh well, at least it is only $53. I scraped enough ice off to see so that I could move my car to the other side of the road. Brakes still fail. I returned inside to do yoga. I tried one video. I didn't love it. It used a chair, which seemed limiting to me. I then found a different video, which was very similar to what I have done at CorePower. It was perfect. It is a 44 minute video, I did about 30 of it today. Now I am thinking it is time to start working on my calendars for Christmas. Then off to bus to work around 12:30

Give me a Break.

01 So today has been long, but not bad. I got up at 7:45 to leave my house by 8. I did this in order to deliver a package to a house that after driving 3 miles to find... does not exist. This conclusion is only based upon where my phone told me it was and where my eyes told me it was not. Therfore the photos did not get delivered. I got to work on time though. So all is well. After work i picked Megan up and we went to Starbucks where I made my christmas list. We continued our trip with a trip to Turn style, Blick and Petsmart. We ended our shopping at Kohls.

My car on the other hand did not have quite as good of a day. To start with my brakes slid and wouldnt stopon the way into the kohls parking lot... and then parking they did it again... didnt hit the car parked in front of me thankfully. Brakes are still not working. Can you say bus to work tomorrow. Ugh. Oh well.

So due to this i am staying at Megans tonight. She is closer to work, and that way i didnt have to drive home tonight.

Nothing Like I Planned.

01 This weekend as well as today have both went very differently than how I originally planed for it to go... Today, I am still at home for one. I had planned to do the following
  • [x] finish writing my paper on Lewis Carroll
  • [ ] Go see Alex Soth exhibit at the Walker
  • [ ] Write Gallery Response for Photo Design.
  • [ ] Go to school and work on Flash Animation of One Snowy Night
  • [ ] Photography Beth El Synagogue - Didn't happen because of the snow, Still trying to reschedule.
  • [ 3/4 ] Shoot Large Format Still life (One Product Shot left)
  • [ ] Print Large format still lifes
  • [ ] Shoot the rest of my Large Format Portraits
  • [1/8] Shoot Photo Design Final Images
This as well as some other things... Ugh.

Time go to pick up Megan and bring her to work... and then I get to go to work. I will probably be spending from 9:30-Midnight at school in the labs tonight working on my flash and possibly printing photos... Long night ahead of me.

Since November 2nd

01

Two of my photos from my Large Format class
are up on the wall on the 4th floor at my school.

Thank you Jack and Matt for letting me photograph you!

I will scan and post the rest of my large format portraits eventually....

I also still have to shoot my entire large format portrait assignment... oops.

Ugh Cold.

01 I am sitting in class and learning flash. This is my first time I have ever used flash and it is really exciting. Though my nose has decided to confirm that I am getting sick. I feel like a small child with the amount my nose is running. This is fun. *sarcasm*

Happy Half

01 Happy 21.5 to me.

Today seems like one of those odd days where you just float through it... I feel like with the way my head is spinning that I am not really here at all.

The long weekend was pretty decent. Lots of work and lots of family and good food. Sunday night I was feeling down though, and decided to take some Midol... figuring the caffeine and the acetaminophen combo would help. It made me worse. I didn't sleep well and woke up still exhausted on Monday morning. I did some research. Turns out that Midol is not on the gluten free list of medicine. This error on my behalf, since I didn't even think about it before taking it, led to a terribly upset stomach all day on Monday.
I spent my morning yesterday, monday, drinking Tea. Black tea with milk and honey. I spent my morning writing papers, and procrastinating all at the same time. Too bad that two halfway done papers don't make even one complete paper. all I really have left for either of them are the image critiques... 5 total between the two papers. Yesterday I also realized that my portrait assignment is due today. Not next Tuesday like I had been thinking. I have 1/6 photos shot 1/6 photos developed 0/6 scanned or printed. Can you say bad¿ (side note: I have no idea how the question mark ended up upside down... odd combination of keys apparently)Now back to your normally scheduled blog topic- The one portrait that I did manage to shoot last night was of my friend Meghan at the Hamline Library. She looks super cute in it. I love having friends that are fun to photograph. Thanks Meghan.
On a happier side note... I entered a contest a while back... and I won... I will post details once everything is official!
Also... Posing Nude for Ally on Saturday. It should be fun!

Maybe this is what I have been doing wrong... too much writing and not enough speaking my mind.

Getting Better.

01 Plain and simple, Music helps me feel better. I spend the entire evening working on my html final for my Fundamentals of Interactive Media and Design class. It is going really well so far. I am making the site for Photo Club. I will have it posted for everyone to see by Thanksgiving. Sounds like a good deadline for me.

Right now I am waiting for Noelle to pick me up from class. We are hanging out at my place tonight. Scott Pilgrim HERE WE COME! She is here. Later!

How much?

01 So I am supposed to be writing a paper on Lewis Carroll, but for now my mind is trapped in this endless circle of thinking. Sadly enough the thinking is not on the paper.

How brutally honest can you be without breaking someone? How open and exposed, uncensored, can one be without loosing part of themselves. How can everything be on the table, yet have nothing change. How much is too much to say, but where is the line that means you aren't saying enough?

Too many thoughts.

Photo Design - Moods

01
These 2 photos are taken to portray two different moods.

Proud/Confident -
In this photograph i used a low vantage point to create an impression of power. The owl is turned slightly away from the light in a sense of accomplishment. The candle, even though it is a prop, is used to help accentuate the feeling of pride. He seems to be saying look what I have. There did not end up being as much fill on the left eye as I would have liked to have on this specific shot. I left a small amount of space between the bottom of the owl and the edge of the frame to create a small amount of tension, a slight tension I feel helps to promote confidence.

Desolate -
I used a wide open space to surround my owl in this photo. The side lighting was used to create dimension and to accentuate the depth of the inner curvature of the owl. I also really wanted to have one side of his face be shadowed like he was alone and hiding. The 'X' on the table I feel created nice lines that lead to the subject and even though this is a closed composition with where the subject is, the lines help make it seem as the surface doesn't end at the edge of the frame. I used a slightly cooler white balance in this photo, again to help with the feeling of being alone.

The music makes it go away.

realizations and rationalizations

01 I bet he never thought I would wear/own this much brown.

It was like having the reset button pressed on the last year and a half of healing.

It is weird how a single flavor/smell can bring back so many memories.

I am still wishing I hadn't broken no makeup november, even though it was just for one shift at work.

Gluten free sucks because I can't eat breadsticks at the Olive Garden.

I still sensor myself when I write, though I doubt there is any reason to. He doesn't read my blog anyway.

Some mornings 6am is just too early. Hence hiting the snooze.

The road Jackson, makes me think of Dessa and Dixon's Girl.

I wonder if I will see him at the show?

I wonder if he will see me...

Will it effect me more or less if I keep it to myself?

It is weird that I almost always fall asleep around the same area on my bus route. Rice & Arlington

let it snow!

01 It is beautiful out this morning. The way the fresh snow is coating the ground, cars and trees. I love the way that the snow is hanging on the branches.

Apparently it is supposed to continue to show all day. I wonder how many sittings will not show up or will call and cancel. The first snow always causes unpredictable results.

Well now that I have seen the beautiful crisp white snow, I am going to go back to sleep for a while

Conversations on what the eye sees.

01
Some days I forget how much I enjoy talking about photography.
I forget until I have a conversation that makes me remember.
Conversations about thinking and seeing.
Filled with images and memories.
Photos and words.
Words about photos.
Perfect.

Critical Thinking Midterm Essay.

01 If I then, had known what we have seen now, I would have been shocked beyond belief. All of the deaths as well as the pollution caused because of people and vehicles of transportation such as cars. These effects that have happened are a huge contrast to the small footprint that people made durring the mid 1800's. If I would have known, if we would have known, going green may have started out as being green to protect the enviroment instead of going green to fix the problems that we have caused. I think that more scientific knowledge is better. Ignorance to how things work can cause more problems. Technology and scientific knowledge when applied properly can save lives, like being able to prevent deaths by predicting storms and other natutral disasters such as earthquakes. As long as we never become content with the research that we have done, I don't believe it will be a problem. There will always be new minds discovering new things that will help us succeed as a race and as a planet. Restricting scientific knowledge would prevent progress as well as growth. In the end, even though deaths have been caused by these man made vehicles, in the 1800's I would have been just as shocked by the huge number of deaths caused by natural disasters.

Now for a 'real' post.

01 Today has went fairly well so far. I had critique in my first class, Photo Design. The critique was on our color images. I am ok with mine. There are some choices for photos that would have been better to turn in, but they sadly enough were at home last night still on my camera while I was downtown printing. I was bummed that I wasn't able to get them printed this morning instead so I could have used some of the others that I had. Also, narrowing down to 4 photos when I liked so many was difficult.

I have about a half hour until photo club at the moment. I have already eaten, more delicious soup. I have finally ordered the necklace that I have wanted forever. The butterfly one. I am using birthday money from Tyler's Mom to buy it. The actual money went towards something else back in May... but now I finally have enough to pay myself back for that loan. It makes me really happy. I ordered a new ring as well. It says Harm None on it. Harm None is a main aspect of the wiccan religion. It speaks of whatever you do, not to intentionally harm anyone. To me it also speaks of being kind and keeping the balance in the world.

Well Time to sign off for now. More later.

Today is 11/11

01 Today is a beautiful number.

The Photos - 4x5

Fruity Pebbles = Amazing!

01 So, today my friend Kyle gave me the rest of his frozen yogurt... it was raspberry with fresh raspberries and fruity pebbles on it. I was hesitant of the fruity pebbles, not knowing if they had gluten in them or not, so I ate around them. I just looked up the ingredients in Fruity, and Cocoa, pebbles and BOTH are gluten free!!! Yay!

4x5 in color

01 I am currently on my way to Linhoff photo to pick up my 4x5 negatives that I shot over the weekend. I was photographing for my large format class. I had to shoot a facade, for which I used the green doors at Saint Catherine's on Saturday afternoon. Then Sunday morning I shot the little historic house in Woodbury again. Through the gate which was slightly open you can see the house. One shot was with both in focus, the other was just with the gate and vines sharp. Then yesterday, Monday morning I got up at 7 and by 8 had picked up Sami to go and shoot the rest of the project. We started the morning by shooting the house that my mom nannys at. the house is super cute. They live near the airport, and I took my photo as a plane was going by... hopefully I got the whole plane in the frame... and hopefully 125 of a second was fast enough. Then we went and drove some more and found a house for her to sue for her full building shot. Next up was my abstract... we found an AWESOME house on 51st and Penn. It looked like a mosaic with the way that it was painted. (Photos to come soon) my last shot was the looking down shot, we found a hilly neighborhood that had a small pond in the middle of it. There was a house across the pond that we were looking down on. As I was preparing to take the shot, a group of 20 or so geese swam past the house and I was able to capture them in the foreground.

Anyway, I am scanning my negatives when I get back to school today so I will try and post the photos later.

Today is day 3

01 Yesterday was day two gluten free. I ate delicious food all day and wasn't tired at all. I didn't have breakfast because I got up late, but I did manage a delicious lunch with my mom after picking up my equiptment from school. After I had the toyo 4x5 and tripod safely in the back of my car I headed over to The Wedge, a co-op that is part of the same network as Valley Natural. I wanted to get lunch for my mom and I. I ended up getting gluten free rainbow pasta, organic asparagus, a couple organic apples and some delicious black cherry juice. Everything was delicious, and filling. I ate about half the amount of noodles I usually eat and stayed full for equally as long. The organic apples and asparagus were both amazing as well, delicious and very flavorful. After work at home I had an apple and some seseme crackers with hummus on them. A very filling snack that has left me content until this morning. I have yet to have breakfast today though.

Currently I am at urgent care with my friend Megan, she is seeing the doctor whild I sit in the waiting room. It is all good time to blog.

The rest of my day today will consist of shooting architecture on 4x5 color film. I am really excited about shooting. After developing each shot I am taking today costs $6. I only need to do 6 shots though. I may also do the 2 extra credit shots which are indoor arrchitecture. I am thinking of heading down to the bowling alley in burnsville for that photo. I need to call them today and see if that is a feasable idea for this project.

Well that is all for now, have a great day whoever you are that might be reading my words,

Recent Findings on Gluten

01 This quarter has been really interesting so far. I will start off with the most recent findings that I mention in the title of this blog. I know that I blogged on it a couple times but for those of you who don't read constantly, I had a lot of stomach issues this past summer. A couple nights drinking... which I suppose can leave anyone with a stomach ache, left me in pain for days. I wont go into details though. I found out a couple weeks ago that Tyler's sister Alyssa was allergic to gluten. Her only symptom was that she was tired all the time. That got me thinking. For the last almost seven years of my life, my main symptom was that I was tired all the time. It has gotten to the point where at times it didn't even phase me to be tired. Now I will list my favorite foods and quick meals that I have eaten a lot of over the last however many years... 1.Pasta 2.Pizza 3.Flour Tortillas with Cheese 4.Cereal 5.Sandwiches. These things all have one big thing in common. Gluten. Yesterday my chiropractor confirmed my suspicions that the fatigue I was feeling constantly, especially after eating any of the five mentioned foods, was because of a sensitivity to gluten.

Because of this, yesterday I went to Valley Natural foods, a co-op in Burnsville. I became a member and it seems like this co-op and others that are affiliated will be a great source and support in helping me continue to eat healthy and delicious food. SO far I have had gluten free hamburger buns and bread, both tapioca bread. I also found out that as a vegetarian who can't have gluten that I can no longer eat boca burgers. They have wheat in them. oops. I found eggplant burgers though and they are delicious. It will be interesting to see how my diet changes with this new finding.

That is all for now, I will post more on my adventures as a gluten free vegetarian as this new journey continues.

day 1

01 Today is the first day of quarter 6. The half way point. At the moment I am sitting on the sidewalk waiting for my bus to arrive. I am hoping my card will scan, for it accidentally became bent sometime between the last time I used it and now. Today will be long. I have class from 8 until 11 and then a break from 11 until 3 and finally three classes which take place between 3 and 11pm. With no homework to do.... this four hour break will be interesting to say the least. I am excited for this quarter though. I am finally taking large format. I am excited to have a class in which I will once again be using the darkroom. Well I am on the bus at last. Time to head in, take care of holds and procede with the first of 22 long days.

Write.

01 tonight is one of those nights that I need to write.
today has been one of those days.
nothing specific to share with the world.
to many thoughts.
dreams that lead me to thinking.
are never, well mostly never, a good thing.
dreams that lead me to remembering.
lead to days like today
and makes me need to write.

Chicago Day 3. Part 1

01 This morning we woke up around 8. And had a relaxing morning that started with clearing my memory cards. I now have room for 600+ more pictures. Joan made breakfast. Eggs, pancakes, fruit and yogurt. The eggs were coated in delicious cheddae cheese. After breakfast we got dressed and did out hair and makeup. We didn't end up leaving the house till a lot later than expected so things ended up being a bit rushed. We made a trip to a Wolf Camera, another of the stores that is owned by the company that I work for. My old district manager Dustin is the DM in chicago now. He was out of town on vacation this week though. After wolf we went to a Occult supply store. The store had a great selection but I behaved myself and spent less than $10. We rushed from there to edgewood station to get on the Metra train. We got there 3 minutes before the train was supposed to come. The train was 20 minutes late. We are on our way into chicago as I am writing this. I should have lots of fantastic things to write about by later this evening!

Chicago Day 2. The Vine

01 The Vine was beautiful. It is a martini and wine bar that also has a fantastic menu. Lauren and I enjoyed it so much that we will be returning this evening when we come back from downtown. Last night there was live music. The Piano guy. He was good, so it made the experience even more enjoyable. My drink for the evening was a butterfinger martini. Yep, butterfinger. They had an entire slew of candy flavored martinis. They of course also had the traditional martinis. I will need to take a picture of their menu. Lauren had a flirtini. A bubbly blue martini. We had a great time. Afterwards we went home and had planned on watching a movie and drinking some wine. By the time we had our pjs on though we were both too tired for a movie, so we went to bed and decided to save the movie and wine for tonight instead.

Chicago Day 2 Part 2

01 We got back from downtown around quarter after 8. This is when part two begins. We went to a liquor store, which apparently are rare in Chicago... the grocery stores sell liquor. Heck I saw a CVS that sold it too. We purchased a bottle of wine. A white zyphendale. (Fix spelling later) After we got back to my cousins house we put our swim suits on and joan gave us a ride to the beach.

Too tired to type. Expand later.

Swimming. The Vine. Bed.

Chicago Day 2 Part 1

01 Today started when I woke up at 7. I was realieved to see that I still had a full hour to return to sleep. I woke up again at 8 when my alarm went off. I proceded to exit the beautiful blue bedroom that I am staying in. In the hall I was greeted by Ella who was closly followed by Joan. Ella heard me get up. Soon Lauren was also awake and the 4 of us girls convened in the kitchen for hot caffinated beverages and mulberry torte. Joan went back to bed when we decided it was time to get prepared for the day. We got dressed, repacked bags to carry, and were on our way. On the train I devoured the bag of blueberries and raspberries as I drank my white tea. The tea was amazing, infused with the flavors of pomegranite and blueberry. The 9:05 train got us to Union Station at about quarter after 10. First mission was to head towards Michigan avenue. We stopped in a couple amazing litttle shops. In one jewelry store I found a necklace that I loved (picture to be included later) we had lunch at the rosebud. (Picture to be included later) pasta was a perfect lunch. After lunch we walked back to Michigan ave and did some shopping. Hit some sales. Spent some money.Went to Tiffany's wished we could afford things. Around five after seeing some amazing photography we headed off to find the Taste. We found the taste... and a lot of food. I had icecream with strawberry sauce, some tempura vegetables, sweet potato fries and stuffed spinach pizza. All of them were amazing! The most unique thing that we found was a mashed potato stuffed chocolate cupcake. It was fantastic! We ended up having to speedwalk back to the train. We are on the train now on our way back to Mark and Joan's house. Planning another adventure tonight and our day tomorrow. More later. Many photo blogs to come!

Chicago Day 1

01 Hello blog. Yeterday was day one in chicago. We left home at 8am and arrived at Mark and Joan's housearound 4pm. We spent a short period of time at there house getting situated before we left to catch a train downtown. Joan made it home before we left. It is so great to see her again. It had been a long time. The train was a bit of an adventure, we wanted to get on at prairie crossing... but missed to train due to time spent talking. We eneded up getting on in deerfield instead. 20 minutes away. Lauren and I got downtown a little before 7 and started walking to find Boni Vino's. Boni Vino's is an itallian resturant. With true Italian food and atmosphere. We went the wrong way. After fidgiting with the gps and getting directions from a fireman we were finally headed in the right direction. We walked a lot. We got there finally and the menu was amazing. We both had pizza. Mine was a personal sized three cheese pizza with mushrooms and eggplant on it. Yep, eggplant. I was impressed. My drink was also amazing! Amaretto Sour. One of Laurens drinks of choice. Definately something I will order again. And possibly learn how to make. It was that good. We left dinner at 8:30. We walked down to Michigan ave, even though most everything was closed. It was a good way to see where we want to go on day 2. We got home to Mark and Joan's around quarter after eleven. Sat and talked. Ella their dog did some tricks. We went to bed.

I know it's maddness to play these eyes
it's Like giving matches to paper dolls.

Septum

01 So, I got my septum pierced on May 14th. I got it done at Rose of No Mans Land in Woodbury. Ryan, the piercer there is amazing. He was very precise and made sure it was perfect before he let me leave the studio. Ryan is the same guy who pierced my eyebrow four years ago.

It is interesting, some of my friends that I have pointed it out to, have commented that they though I had always had it. Apparently it was a good choice then.

My mom, even though she was hesitant at first ended up liking it. She even told me that she thinks it is cute.

Today when I was washing it I accidentally pushed it out, since I have a retainer in it... I was worried for a moment, but it went back in without a problem.

I will post more new pictures soon :D

Newsletter Portrait.

01 So for Photo Club ( this will be in a whole different post) We are doing a bi-weekly newsletter. First Issue is featuring Myself and Kat Kline. We are both turning 21 this month so we get to be special. We did portraits today to use in the newsletter. I love them!

Here they are: Thank you Anthony!

7/21

01
I figured since a whole month has passed before my eyes since the last time I posted, today would be a good day to start my good habit of posting again. Today on the way home from school I took 21 pictures. These are the 7 that I deemed as 'keepers'
